Spring 2004

Alpine Glass & Door
Cheryl Thomas began her new venture by making glass gifts for friends and migrated to building projects for acquaintances. Because she enjoyed her newfound hobby so much, she decided to undertake a sideline business in glass. Cheryl designed the patterns, selected colors, and leaded the pieces. Husband Richard cut the glass and left his construction business before long to help her open a stained glass store in Alpine, California, a tiny mountain community east of San Diego. Cheryl estimates that doors and windows now comprise 65 percent of Alpine’s business, while most of the remaining receipts are attributed to tools, retail glass, and supplies.
